Texting and Driving a dangerous mix...
All of us think we can text and drive. Oprah shared the lives of both drivers and others who were impacted by texting and cell phone use while driving. Watch this video, it could change your live. Then join Teens in Action as we promote driving safety and healthy living.
In November 2008, 14 of us traveled to Monterey Califonia to present to the National Camp Fire USA
Youth Leadership Forum. The conference was attended by youth from across the USA and was designed
to provide us with skills in the areas of Leadership, planning, service-learning, and advocacy.
We participated in round tables, presentations, and hands on activities to prepare us for our efforts.
We also learned about developing business plans and creating local leadership teams.
As part of the program, Teens in Action’s Road Skill/Roads Kill Team from Bishop McNamara High School and the Metro Washington DC Area were invited to share information on Teen Driving Safety. We held discussions with our peers, presented a dramatic presentation on Teen Driving Safety, and encouraged youth to be aware of the issues of driving and passenger safety. We had hoped to stream our presentation to other schools across the country but the storm knocked out the electricity and the Internet was not available. We learned a lot about our dependency on technology and what happens when if fails. We also learned how being prepared with our topics and subject area—allowed us to make a presentation and not miss a beat.
During December we will be working at getting the webcast to stream and also meeting with our recent alumni members who are now in college to find ways to bring our message to their colleges.
